At least 14 officials of Bulgaria's Customs Agency have reportedly been fired overnight.
According to reports of Darik radio citing sources close to the matter, eight of the customs officers were staff of the Kalotina border crossing point and were dismissed during a shift change between 7 and 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
The preliminary reports say that a number of specialists working at the Sofia Airport have also been dismissed but some of them have not yet signed the orders.
The Customs Agency told Darik Radio that it had fired people lacking university diplomas who no longer matched the respective job requirements.
The customs authority informed that it had fired three customs officials late on Tuesday and another five on Wednesday morning.
No official data has yet been provided about the dismissals at Sofia Airport.
The spate of dismissals of customs officials over the lack of higher education are not related to the protests of Sofia-based employees, who oppose the planned relocation of the Customs Agency headquarters to the Danube city of Ruse.
According to Darik radio, there are no employees without university diplomas at the CA HQs.
The dismissals of high-school graduates from the customs administration are expected to affect over 200 people.
