The Bulgarian cabinet is endorsing Irina Bokova for a second term as Director General of UNESCO.

The decision is expected to be made Wednesday during the meeting of the Council of Ministers. The proposal is being submitted by Foreign Affairs Minister, Nikolay Mladenov.

Bulgaria's Bokova became Head of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO, in September 2009. She said then that her nomination has been endorsed by 3 consecutive governments – of former Tsar, Simeon Saxe-Coburg, of socialist Prime Minister, Sergey Stanishev, and of PM, Boyko Borisov.

The Foreign Ministry is in charge of coordinating a campaign for securing support for the Bulgarian nomination among UNESCO Member States.
