The Eyes of Others, a contemporary Bulgarian play by young writer, poet and playwright Ivan Dimitrov, is to be staged in New York.
Bug Company is producing the play this September, presented by the New Ohio Theatre to open their 2012-13 season.
According to Indie Go Go, "The Eyes of Others" will be the first Bulgarian play ever to be produced in NYC. The website describes it as exciting and provocative.
"Ivan is writing old-school absurdism (think the "clown" side of Beckett), but he's thinking about consumer culture, global capitalism, surveillance—the big questions of our time—and he does it all without ever losing his distinctive off-center humor."
The play was one of the ten plays featured in this year's edition of the hotINK at the Lark festival, an international play reading series that has introduced plays from over fifty countries to New York City audiences.
Bug Company says it now needs to raise the funds to round out the project's budget. USD 8000 is the sum necessary for rehearsal space, costumes, set materials and construction, stipends for artists and a publicist to get the word out.
