Daniel Mitov Ready for Foreign Minister Role Amid Geopolitical Test in Bulgaria
Daniel Mitov, Deputy Chairman of GERB, has expressed his readiness to assume the position of Acting Foreign Minister
Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, boasted Tuesday that his ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party, GERB, has implemented 100% of reforms in internal affairs, promised in the party's election program.
Speaking before the Parliamentary Committee on Home Security, the Minister stressed that the promises were fulfilled in 3 years not 4.
He further submitted with the Committee a report titled "The Interior between 2009 and 2012 – The Account."
The entire political and professional leadership of the Ministry accompanied Tsvetanov at the presentation.
"You remember our strongest critics accused us of being ineffective in the fight against organized crime. But we reinstated the Main Directorate for Combatting Organized Crime, GDBOP; in compliance with EU standards, we established the 112 emergency hotline; we created municipal police in the cities of Sofia, Haskovo, Burgas, and others; we launched a specialized courier service at the Ministry; lowered the average age of chiefs of units; merged the Main Directorate Pre-trial Proceedings with Criminal Police," the Minister said.
Others successes he listed included uniting the fire rescue services, the civil defense and the crisis management in one Main Directorate "Fire Safety and Protection of Population"; uniting the Main Directorates Criminal Police and Security Police in one Main Directorate National Police; having 8 000 policemen working in pre-trial proceedings to reduce the number of cases returned by the Prosecutor's Office for additional investigation; providing access to the archives of the Ministry; subjecting the use of Special Surveillance Devices, SRS, to Parliamentary Control; establishing transparency of public procurement tenders and access to public information.
