Four teams of firefighters are at the site of the wildfire that erupted Sunday evening along southern Bulgarian Trakiya Highway near the town of Ihtiman, some 30 km away from capital Sofia.
The fire has engulfed a roadside hill, but has two separate epicenters.
One of them, of an area of 12 acres, is located closer to Ihtiman, and has already been restrained by firefighters.
The other, in the Bakar Dere locality, is significantly larger, measuring 50 acres, and officers are still having difficulties in managing it.
"We are doing everything possible to localize the fire and prevent it from spreading to the nearby sizeable forest massif," explained Bulgarian firefighting agency head, chief commissary Nikolay Nikolov.
Just last Sunday, a difficult forest fire that is still smouldering erupted in a wild area of the Vitosha Mountain nearby Sofia.
