Bulgarian Nationalists Launch Anti-Gay Hate Rally in Sofia

5 Bulgarian far-right nationalist parties have started their homophobic rally in protest against the Gay Pride scheduled in Sofia for Saturday afternoon.

Members of Ataka, VMRO, the Bulgarian National Union, the Bulgarian National Radical Party, and National Resistance assembled after 10 am in front of the National Palace of Culture.

They rally is scheduled to march along Sofia's central Vitosha Blvd on to the Sveta Nedelya church.

Nationalists have chosen "68 Years of Foreign Idols Worship are Enough" as the motto for their protest, strangely referring to 1944, the year Bulgaria begame a communist country.

"Sexuality is a private choice. We are protesting against its flaunting and propaganda on the street," stated VMRO's Angel Dzhambazki during a speech at the nationalists' gathering.

According to Dzhambazki, gays in Bulgaria must have and do have equal rights and are fully protected by the law, but are still trying to impose skewed values on society.

Protesters carried signs such as "No more foreign dictate, we don't want no gay parade," and "If you want gays, take them to your own country."

Expect further details on the nationalist anti-gay rally.

The 5th annual Sofia Gay Pride is scheduled after 4 pm Saturday. Ralliers will assemble in the park of the Soviet Army monument and after 5 pm will march along the Vasil Levski, Dondukov and Tsar Osvoboditel Blvds back to the park.
