The European Union is to launch accession negotiations with Montenegro on Friday, officials have announced.

On Friday, EU leaders meeting in Brussels for an economic summit signed off on a recommendation to formally open the talks later that day. The talks are expected to last several years.

Montenegro has already started negotiations on the justice and home affairs "chapters".

Podgorica is particularly interested in Bulgaria's expert support during the accession process, according to Aleksandar Pejovic, the country's chief EU negotiator.

A team of experts from the Bulgarian Foreign Ministers will move to Montenegro at the end of July to help the country's European integration, Pejovic has revealed, as cited by the Bulgarian National Radio.

On Tuesday, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov declared that his country warmly welcomed the start of accession talks between the EU and Montenegro.
