Kuwait Govt Resigns amid Crisis

The government of Kuwait has resigned amid a political crisis, international media report.

"The Kuwaiti cabinet submitted its resignation to the emir," the Al-Rai private TV channel has announced, as cited by Nahamet.

On Wednesday, the country's Constitutional Court annulled the results of February's elections in February that gave the Islamist-led opposition a majority in parliament, thus reviving the previous, more government-friendly assembly.

Opposition members have rejected the court ruling, describing it as "null and void." They have insisted that the court has exceeded its mandate stipulated under the law.

The OPEC member and key US ally has been rocked by a series of political crises over the past six years during which nine cabinets resigned and parliament was dissolved four times.
