A new project named S.G.A.N., aiming at waking up Bulgarian people, making them more critical and active, was announced Monday.
Created on the idea of Ventsislav Mitsov, musician from the bands Hipodil and Svetlio & The Legends, S.G.A.N. hopes to gather together artists, doctors, journalists, viewers, readers, and simply people, who believe in the principle that "misery breeds talents, but talents in Bulgaria shout less and less against everything that is happening or not happening in the country stuck in its post-transition period."
The initiators say they want others to wake up like them, stop criticizing only with a drink in their hand in front of the TV set, and react when they see "system errors," become more sensitive to problems and realize that they have a hold on their own life.
The project has its own song in the punk style, because according to the people behind it, punk is the music of anger. It is written by Mitsov, while S.G.A.N. are planning other "wake up calls."
"We do not want to ride on the wave of Eagles' Bridge protests, we support them, but the project will happen from now on. We will not issue appeals for protests, for any particular actions, everyone has to decide on their own what they must undertake. The idea is to push everyone to think in depth about what they want and then start working for it," Mitsov, cited by the online edition of the Bulgarian Dnevnik daily, says.
He adds that special attention must be paid to artists to become more sensitive to current events.
The project has a Facebook page with about 800 followers since Monday morning.
The initiators further explain that S.G.A.N. is from and for people who disagree and who care; it is not launched by intellectuals, but belongs to common citizens.
The abbreviation S.G.A.N. in Bulgarian means mob. The founders promise to never turn it into a political party and participate in elections.
"We do this to show that not everything in Bulgaria is a mix of power and chalga (pop folk music)," they stress.
Mitsov and another Hipodil musician, its lead singer, Svetoslav Vitkov, who ran together for Vice President and President, respectively, in the 2011 elections say they continue with their ideas about forming a political movement, which will have nothing to do with S.G.A.N.
