Policemen form the Main Directorate Criminal Police have arrested an impostor claiming he was employed with the office of the Bulgarian Prime Minister.

The Directorate received a tipoff Friday from the National Security Services, NSO, about a man attempting to commit fraud by presenting himself as an employee from the PM's office. He asked to be provided funding to send people to be trained in Israel. In exchange, the man promised to secure winning bids for security companies in State public tenders, insisting the final decision depended on him.

The last call had been placed to a large security company with a request for EUR 2 400.

Upon receiving the information, police located the individual as being near the Serdika metro stop in the very heart of the city. He made an attempt to escape, but was arrested. He had no ID documents on him. The police later identified the man, 32, as being a native from the northeastern city of Shumen, and a permanent resident of Sofia.

He has a long criminal record, numerous arrest warrants and several guilty verdicts.

The police seized a cell phone, receipts, and a blank form of the Council of Ministries, addressed to a trade company with the request of funding under the described scam.
