Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev and first lady Yuliana Plevnelieva own five houses – including a villa in Halkidiki, Greece – and more than BGN 1.8 M in bank deposits, according to the President's property declaration.

The Bulgarian National Audit Office's official website published on Friday President Plevneliev's declaration on the Act of Disclosure of Property of Persons Occupying High State Positions in the Republic of Bulgaria, which sheds light on interesting details about the Bulgarian President's wealth.

Plevneliev's personal wealth amounts to over EUR 712 000 in a bank deposit outside Bulgaria, in addition to his EUR 42 000 in Bulgarian banks.

The Bulgarian first lady Yuliana has over BGN 320 000 in bank deposits in Bulgaria, as well as 100% shares in two Sofia-based companies, providing banking and consulting services – Ateladia Ltd. and Ateladia Consult Ltd, and additional shares in the Reiffeisen Bank Bulgaria mutual fund for BGN 295 583.

President Plevneliev also has securities for BGN 313 815 issued by Deutsche Bank, Austria.

Bulgaria's head of state declared that he and his wife bought an Audi Q7 SUV in 2009 for over BGN 39 000.

Rosen Plevneliev's property assets provoke special public interest, because of the real estates the President failed to declare in 2009 and 2010, when he held the office of Bulgarian Minister of Regional Development and Public Works.

For the first time in 2012, Plevneliev declared that in 2008 he and the first lady bought 2 houses in Sofia's Residential Park, valued at over BGN 700 000 each.

The last property the First Family bought was a house worth BGN 352 049 in the village of Banya, near the Western Bulgarian mountain town of Razlog, in 2009.

In 2008, the Plevneliev family bought a house in the Black Sea resort Chernomorets for over BGN 250 000, and their most controversial real estate is the villa they bought in 2008 in the Halkidiki Peninsula, located in Northern Greece, worth BGN 1 369 081.

Bulgarian media and public opinion are traditionally negative about reports on the wealth and luxury property of Bulgarian politicians, especially because Bulgaria is officially the poorest country in the EU.
