Bulgarian Bus Overturns in Turkey, 11 Injured Including 2 Bulgarians
A bus with Bulgarian registration veered off its path, resulting in 11 injuries, two of which are reported to be severe
A Mercedes automobile of Bulgaria's National Security Services, NSO, has crashed with an ambulance Wednesday at a busy intersection of the Bulgarian capital Sofia.
The accident happened around noon at the intersection of the two major boulevards – "Dondukov" and "Vasil Levski."
The impact caused the ambulance to turn over, but the driver and the doctor miraculously escaped without injuries. There were no patients inside since it was on its way to an address responding to an emergency call.
The NSO driver says he was crossing at green light and did not see the ambulance's flashing lights and did not hear its siren.
This is the latest of a series of traffic accident where NSO vehicles have been involved.
At the end of October, 2011, a black BMW SUV of NSO was photographed by the Bulphoto agency evening, crashing in a Volkswagen Touareg.
In May, 2011, a pilot NSO car, leading the procession of then outgoing President, Georgi Parvanov, and a car with Kardzhali license plates crashed at an intersection in the city. There were no reported injuries.
On February 15, 2011, the procession of Bulgaria's Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, got involved in a traffic accident on its way from Sofia to the western town of Godech.
The government-issued BMW X5 hit another car – a Volkswagen Passat with three men inside. There were no injuries, but both vehicles were damaged.
Another car from the official possession was also damaged after a fender-bender with the Volkswagen which spun around from the impact.
The Volkwagen driver insists the BMW traveled at high speed in his lane and he couldn't do anything to prevent the crash. Both drivers have been tested for alcohol and the blood probe came out negative.
This was the second accident in less than a month involving Borisov's procession – at the end of January a government vehicle hit a car when traveling to the northern city of Pleven. The crash did not cause injuries or substantial damage. The probe revealed it the accident was caused by an illegal passing of the NSO cars.
In September, 2010, the procession of President, Georgi Parvanov, was involved in an accident near the village of Malinovo, in the area of the northern city of Lovech. At the time, the Presidential Office commented there had been, indeed an accident near the procession, but NSO vehicles were not involved.
In April, 2010, at the busy intersection of the "Bulgaria" boulevard and "Todor Kabsleshkov" street in Sofia, the car, in which Defense Minister, Anyu Angelov, was riding, crashed in a vehicle passing at a green light. A toddler was injured during the crash, after the NSO car ran a red light and did not have any special markings such as a siren or flashing lights.
