France's Socialist Party and its allies appeared headed for a majority in the French Parliament in the first round of voting for the lower house.

Projections have suggested the country's new socialist President Francois Hollande can look forward to a majority in the National Assembly.

Leftists are forecast to take between 300 and 366 seats in the next parliament, and the conservatives between 210 and 270 seats, according to the CSA and TNS-Sofres polling agencies.

The second round of the elections is scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 17.

If confirmed in Sunday's second round vote it will mean a left-wing Assembly in France for the first time in a decade.
