Majority of Bulgarians Fear Impact of Green Deal on Electricity Bills
Amid the implementation of measures under the European Union's Green Deal, 64% of Bulgarians have identified the escalating electricity prices as their top concern
Electricity producer prices will increase by 11% from 2013, according to Evgenia Haritonova, Deputy Energy Minister.
Speaking Tuesday at a forum on sustainable energy development, she explained that tariffs would rise gradually in the years after 2013.
She said that Bulgaria was applying for a derogation of the payment of 100% of the greenhouse gas emissions permits by electricity producers from 2013.
"Taking advantage of the option set out in Art. 10.2 of Directive 2003/87/EC will lead to a more gradual increase in producer prices of electricity, and in 2013 the tariffs will go up by around 11%," Haritonova stated.
Bulgaria's Deputy Energy Minister refused to comment on whether Bulgaria had offered Russia to join in the construction of Unit 7 of the Kozloduy NPP.
Haritonova dwelled on the importance of a modern power supply system in Bulgaria that could provide a cleaner, more accessible and more efficient energy.
She went on to list key priorities of the country like limiting external dependence and encouraging economic growth and explained that the aim was to preserve Bulgaria's role of an important energy factor in the region.
Haritonova stressed that Bulgaria was taking steps to create an independent, regulated and competitive energy market.
