The minimum retirement pension in Bulgaria is going up by BGN 9 a month, effective Friday, June 1, 2012.

The new minimum pension now is BGN 145 from the previous BGN 136. The change will affect about 736 000 retirees.

In addition to the elderly who get the lowest pension, the change will include people whose money falls below the old and the new minimum threshold, according to the private TV channel bTV. The amount of their monthly pensions will be updated to the current minimum one.

There will be a also an update of pensions of people for whom the minimum monthly amount is used to calculate their money, such as the ones of people who have become ill or handicapped due to a work-related incident.
