American Ambassador in Sofia, James Warlick, refuted information that he has been recalled early due to some particular mistake he has committed, insisting he was leaving Bulgaria under a "standard" procedure.

"I have no scheduled departure date and I have not been recalled early due to something I have done. This is standard procedure for US Ambassadors. My wife (Ambassador in Belgrade – editor's note) is in the same situation. I have been here for 2 years and 9 months – this is standard. If I was to stay for 3 years and 3 months – this would be standard too," the diplomat, speaking Thursday for Nova TV, stressed.

He explained that none of the large number of media publications, claiming he was forced to leave over some blunder or blunders, is true.

Warlick clarified that he was not going to stay in Bulgaria for another year, but the final deadline would depend on the US Senate.

"We are talking here about a number of reviews, meetings and hearings my successor has to undergo. In my case, I will leave when I leave," said the Ambassador and admitted that he would be saddened to part with Bulgaria.

On May 25th US President Barack Obama officially announced that he has nominated Marcie Ries for Ambassador to Bulgaria, where she will replace James Warlick. The announcement was published on the site of the White House.

Warlick became Ambassador in Sofia in January 2010. Rumors about his recall have been circulating in Bulgaria since the beginning of April 2012, and he has strongly denied them all.

US Ambassadors have a term of 3 years, which can be extended by another 6 months. The White House statement does not list any grounds for the reshuffle.

Many in Bulgaria have been critical about what they see as the diplomat's interference in the country's internal affairs.
