The euro zone is going to emerge strong after overcoming the debt crisis, Bulgarian Finance Minister Simeon Djankov has told Austrian paper Die Presse in an interview.

"Some of the countries that are experiencing a crisis behave like spoiled children," Djankov stated in the interview published Monday by Die Press.

"Central and Eastern European countries are used to relying on themselves, while some Southern European countries rely on the generosity of others. There they say that the reforms are complicated for one reason or another," Djankov stated.

"This is true but the reforms can be implemented. In Bulgaria we too had to deal with protests and strikes, but obviously Southern Europe finds it difficult to understand that dependence on someone else's money weakens the institutions of your state," he added.

The Bulgarian Finance Minister has also commented on Bulgaria's readiness to adopt the euro as national currency, the reforms in the country, and Bulgaria's readiness to join the Schengen Area.
