A large number of antique coins have been seized by Bulgarian police from illegal treasure hunters.

The special operation has been conducted Monday by the "Cultural Valuables Trafficking" unit at the Main Directorate for Combatting Organized Crime, GDBOP, the Interior Ministry's press office informs.

Three men have been detained in an apartment in the capital Sofia at the moment they were discussing details of a deal with four antique coins, with extremely high value, according to experts.

The following raids of three addresses in Sofia and one in the town of Teteven yielded over 200 antique and medieval coins, a large number of arrow tips, antique jewelry and ceramics.

Pre-trail proceedings have been launched. The three are being held behind bars for 24 hours pending arraignment. The probe in the case continues.
