Code Yellow Declared for Half Bulgaria over Thunderstorms

Society » ENVIRONMENT | May 8, 2012, Tuesday // 08:19

A shifting weather bringing strong thunderstorms will set in Tuesday in large parts of Bulgaria, with the national weather service calling code yellow for potentially dangerous weather.

Code yellow has been declared for the region of capital Sofia and other valleys in western Bulgaria, most of northern Bulgaria, the region of western Thrace, as well as the Rhodope mountains.

The spell will make the weather more volatile, bringing down cooler air and heavy clouds that will break into rainstorms with thunder and hail, around and after noon.

Highs are expected to stay around 27 degrees Celsius only at spots, in many places dropping to 22 C.

Although they have declared code yellow, forecasters at Bulgaria National Institute of Meteorology an Hydrology remind that this is usual weather for the late spring season in Bulgaria.
