The voter turnover in France's presidential runoff has reached 71.96% at 5:00 pm local time, according to the country's Interior Ministry.

A total of 70.59% of the French voters had cast their ballots by 5 pm on April 22 when the first round took place.

According to initial reports, Francois Hollande is set to win the election by gathering approximately 52.5% - 53% of all votes.

Sarkozy's result is between 47% and 47.5%, Belgian and Swiss papers say, citing exit polls.

Sarkozy is facing his Socialist challenger, Francois Hollande in the run-off of the French Presidential Elections, with Sarkozy trailing Hollande by 6 percentage points in polls Friday.
