One of the two major trade unions in Bulgaria, the Confederation of Independent Bulgarian Syndicates (KNSB), has elected its interim chief Plamen Dimitrov as its permanent President.

Dimitrov took over the KNSB in October 2010 as the Interim President, after the long-time head of the organization, Dr. Zhelyazko Hristov, passed away.

Dimitrov was elected with the majority of the votes at the 7th Congress of the trade union in Sofia on Thursday.

He is to serve a five-year term. All of the incumbent Vice Presidents of KNSB – Ivan Kokalov, Valentin Nikiforov, Nikolay Nenkov – have retained their posts, with two more VPs added – Chavdar Hristov and Plamen Nankov.

Dimitrov himself served as one of the VPs of KNSB from 2007 until 2010 when he became the interim president of the syndicate.

On Thursday, the delegates at the KNSB Congress paid tribute to their previous President Dr. Zhelyazko Hristov with a minute of silence.
