The Holy Fire, which miraculously ignited at the Holy Sepulchre Church in Jerusalem, was brought to Bulgaria on Holy Saturday evening, on the eve of Easter.

The fire was brought to Bulgaria with a governmental plane by an official clerical delegation to Jerusalem headed by Plovdiv metropolitan bishop Nikolay.

The plane then set off for capital Sofia, where it will be ignited at the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral for the solemn Easter service to be held by Bulgarian Patriarch Maxim.

The solemn festive service in Plovdiv will be held by bishop Nikolay at the Holy Mother of God Cathedral.

Saturday evening, hundreds waited to meet the Holy Fire's arrival in Plovdiv, including state officials.

The Holy Fire is a crucial miracle for Eastern Orthodox Christians, and is said to have happened every Holy Saturday for centuries.

After descending upon the site of the tomb of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem, the flame is brought to Orthodox Christian countries across the world.

Saturday thousands gathered at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem to behold the flame that does not burn and purify themselves in preparation for the resurrection of their Savior.
