More Confusion: Daniel Mitov Declines Offer for Acting Foreign Minister
GERB MP Daniel Mitov has announced his refusal to accept the offer to serve as acting foreign minister, citing concerns about becoming a pawn in the current power struggle
The Moldovan government has restored centralized funding for the Bulgarian community in Taraclia, according to a Friday statement of the press office of Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry.
Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov hailed the step as "a European decision".
Friday's media statement noted that the resumption of state funding had been achieved through joint efforts of the Bulgarian President, Prime Minister and Foreign Ministry.
"I use the occasion to congratulate the Moldovan government for the European decision," Mladenov said.
"It will allow the normal functioning of educational institutions, hospitals and the entire community in Taraclia. The future of the autonomous institutions in the region and their activity had been on the map," Bulgaria's Foreign Minister stressed.
"The Bulgarian community in Moldova is the most natural bridge to European integration of the country. Today's positive decision is further proof of the friendly and partnership relations between Sofia and Kishinev, as well as an expression of the trust built between the two sides," Mladenov stated.
In end-March, the Bulgarian minority in Taraclia complained to the Bulgarian government and the foreign diplomats in Kishinev of "unprecedented discrimination measures" by the central authority.
The ethnic Bulgarians in Moldova were alarmed by the decision for the termination of all state funding for the region.
