Ukrainian Woman Detained in Sunny Beach After Attempted Bribery of Police Officers
Bulgarian authorities found themselves grappling with a peculiar case involving a 60-year-old Ukrainian woman
The Bulgarian Interior Ministry has denied offering official information about the brazen overnight robbery of an armored truck in which at least BGN 2 M have vanished.
The only scarce information so far has come from the Head Secretary of the Interior Ministry, Chief Commissar, Kalin Georgiev, who is on a visit to the police precinct in the western city of Pernik.
He confirmed that the perps were between four and six, but denied information they had been wearing police uniforms. According to Georgiev, they only had bulletproof vests with the sign "Police."
The security guards of the armored truck have not been harmed and are in good physical conditions, but psychologists are helping them to overcome the shock.
The said armored vehicle carrying a huge amount of money was stopped through a head-on collision Wednesday night by an SUV or a minivan, with foreign license plates. Five masked individuals, armed with machine guns, cut the armor with special tools, took the money, set the vehicle on fire and fled in several SUVs.
The TV channel bTV informed that the robbers were dressed in police uniforms.
It also emerged that the robbery did not happen on the road between the town of Sevlievo and the city of Gabrovo, as initially reported, but on the old road from the city of Lovech to the town of Sevlievo.
Georgiev said the police will focus their probe on establishing why an armored truck with so much money had traveled on a deserted country road, instead of being on the main one, as the rules of armored security require.
