The central train station in Bulgaria's capital Sofia will be completely renovated, a move that will cost a total of EUR 30 M, the country's Transport Ministry has announced.

The project has to be fulfilled by the end of 2014, when the current program period of the Operational Program Transport expires.

The renovation will be financed with money initially meant to be spent on Sofia's abandoned intermodal terminal project.

Sofia's central train station has to be modern and clean, Transport Minister Ivaylo Moskovski has declared, as cited by the Cross news agency.

Bulgaria's National Railway Infrastructure Company has promised it would be ready with the application form for the renovation project by the end of 2012. Construction works are also expected to begin by the end of the year.
