The water in the downtown fountain in the Southern Bulgarian city of Plovdiv has been painted in blue.

The idea has been initiated by the Plovdiv Mayor Ivan Totev who is said to have seen it in Romania, Darik Plovdiv reported.

The local authorities used plain, harmless pastry dye in order to color the fountain water, the head of the municipal park firm Stoyan Alexiev is quoted as saying.

He explained that the color of the water can be changed as it gets replaced.
