Bulgaria's President Rosen Plevneliev has stated that he is not interested in "particular projects", referring to the fate of his country's potential second nuclear power plant in Belene.
Instead, the President has claimed that he cares for "national priorities that are followed and not substituted."
On Wednesday, Rosen Plevneliev carried out his first meeting with Ambassadors of EU member states in Bulgaria. He told the envoys that all political parties in his country have agreed upon several key priorities: energy efficiency, conservative fiscal policy, measures that would support the economy, including small and medium enterprises, as well as reforms in the security sector.
Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov is expected to announce Bulgaria's decision on Belene during Wednesday's cabinet sitting. The PM declined appearing in the Parliament for a hearing on the fate of the project.
According to media reports. Borisov has told Vladimir Putin that Bulgaria will abandon plans to build the 2,000 megawatt nuclear power plant on the Danube River if it cannot attract sufficient Western funding for it.
