Taxi business owners active in the Bulgarian capital Sofia, who have decided to charge the maximum allowed prices for their service, have disproved of their "cheaper" colleagues plans to increase fares.
Earlier this week taxi business owners announced they will increase taxi fares by an average BGN 0.15-0.20 per kilometer.
At present, most taxis in the capital charge BGN 0.59-0.69 per kilometer. However, companies exist that charge the maximum allowed limit at BGN 1.30 during the day.
On Wednesday, Romeo Tsankov, manager of one of the "expensive" companies, voiced his disapproval of his colleagues' plans to increase fares. According to Tsankov and Yane Yankov, chair of the National Federation of Taxi Drivers, the taxi companies that want to raise their fare account for some 40% of the market in Sofia.
Tsankov also said he hoped that the limit on the maximum prices for taxi services in Sofia will be increased in May, dnevnik.bg informs.
