British Ambassador to Bulgaria Jonathan Allen had an unpleasant accident Sunday in the southern Bulgarian city of Plovdiv, according to his Twitter account.

"Bad end to a lovely day in Plovdiv. Car window smashed and satnav stolen. Waiting with police now for forensics team," he wrote on Sunday afternoon.

Approached to comment on the matter, Plovdiv police neither confirmed, nor rejected the offense.

In a follow-up post, Allen explains that this is the "third time in six months this has happened. Twice in UK!".

Despite the unlucky experience, the Ambassador notes that he is "very happy with police reaction and efforts" and thanks the officers for the "quick and professional help".

Several days ago, Allen called on Bulgarian authorities to take measures and seize mafia assets, saying that "the people we all keep hearing about and who cannot prove the origin of their wealth must be deprived of it".

Prior to assuming office on January 30, the new British Ambassador spent a month in Plovdiv, Bulgaria's second biggest city, to get acquainted with the language and the local traditions.

He was accommodated by the family of a consultancy owner and an English language teacher.

After his stay in Plovdiv, Allen said he had become a fan of the local dish of banitsa and of chalga music and that he was fascinated by Bulgarian grandmothers, or "babas", who he termed as "super heroes".

He also said he was impressed with the sights in Plovdiv.
