The commercial navigation of the Danube River in its Bulgarian section has been restored as the ice float disappeared, the Bulgarian Transport Ministry announced Friday night.

On February 8, Bulgaria's Executive Agency "Maritime Administration" introduced a ban on Danube shipping because of the severe meteorological conditions in February, with the ban being lifted only March 2.

In mid February 2012, the Danube River froze in the Bulgarian section near Port Silistra for the first time in 20 years.

Bulgaria's Transport Ministry said Friday that all of Bulgaria's Danube ports are functioning "normally", with the exception of Port Silistra and Port Tutrakan, which remain closed as they have been badly damaged by the recent ice float.

The Bulgarian Maritime Administration has nonetheless warned all navigation companies to be alert since not all navigation signs have been restored yet.
