Istanbul's Hagia Sophia has been ranked as one of the most frequently visited museums in Turkey.

According to data of Turkey's Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the monument was visited by 3.1 million tourists from all over the world in 2011.

In this respect, Hagia Sophia ranks first among a number of tourist destinations to have been visited by a total of 31.5 million tourists.

Turkey's second most visited sight is the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul, followed by the ancient city of Ephesus and the Mevl?na museum in the city of Konya.

Turkey ranks seventh in terms of growth of visiting tourists, maintaining a constant upward trend in tourist visits since 2002.

For the past 10 years, the country had registered an increase in tourism revenues by around 94%.
