The Dutch government should distance itself from a website created by the anti-immigration Freedom Party that records complaints about Central and Eastern Europeans, employers' organization head Bernard Wientjes has declared.

According to Wientjes, the website in question is "'a form of demonisation".

"This contributes to a fear of foreigners, which is not what we should have in this open country," the employers' chef has commented, as cited by DutchNews.nl.

Social Affairs Minister Henk Kamp has commented that it is up to the Freedom Party of Geert Wilders to decide what action to take.

The populist party has an alliance with the minority government, which it supports on economic policy in return for tougher immigration rules.

The site, titled "Complaints about Central and Eastern Europeans," boasts slogans such as "Do you have problems with people from Central and Eastern Europe?" and "Have you lost your job because of a Pole, a Bulgarian, a Romanian? We want to know." It also displays media headlines reporting how Eastern Europeans commit more and more crime.

Bulgaria has reacted strongly to the new initiative, saying it cannot accept the fact that one of the countries founders of the European Union is tolerating incitement to hatred, discrimination and xenophobia, in contradiction of the Charter of Fundamental Human Rights.

Romanian authorities have also reacted strongly to the xenophobic website, accusing Wilders' party of discrimination.
