Two people were injured in melee with axes overnight, taking place in the Roma quarter in Bulgaria's southwestern city of Blagoevgrad.

The call for the incident was received through the emergency hotline 112 around 9 pm Sunday.

A clash between two Roma groups occurred on "Iglika" street. Four police patrol cars arrived at the scene and were able to subdue the mass brawl.

A 34-year-old woman and 29-year-old man, both Roma from Pokrovnik, were injured. They were transported to the hospital in Blagoevgrad with cuts and bruises on their bodies.

Their head wounds were treated and they were then released for home treatment. The causes of the incident are investigated by the staff of the Second Police Precinct in Blagoevgrad.
