German club Bayer Leverkusen have no intention of signing Manchester United's Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov, it has been made clear.

"I do not like saying "never", but we do not consider this transfer for now. Besides that, I can inform you that we will not seek his signature in the summer, either," Bayer Leverkusen CEO Wolfgang Holzhauser has told local media.

Bayer Leverkusen, the club that once witnessed Berbatov's raise to prominence, as well as Bayern Munich, were said to be among the teams eager to snap up the unsettled Bulgarian.

Meanwhile, Berbatov's agent Emil Danchev has told the Russian Sovetskiy Sport (Soviet Sport) that his client will not join Anzhi Makhachkala or CSKA Moscow, thus refuting another series of persistent rumors.

"I do not usually respond to media rumors. They can say whatever they want," Danchev has said, declaring that a potential Berbatov transfer is not on the agenda.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson announced that the club plans to offer Berbatov an option that could extend his contract by another year.
