Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov scored a draw against a 10-year-old chess medalist, Viktoriya Radeva, at the Council of Ministers office.

Radeva has a silver medal from the World Chess Championship for girls up to 10 years of age in Caldas Novas, Brazil; she faced Borisov in an impromptu match on Wednesday.

Borisov managed to draw Radeva at the 64th move, while also taking advice from her male classmates, in a match that lasted took an hour from the Prime Minister's busy schedule.

According to Nikolay Velchev, head of the Bulgarian Chess Federation, Radeva had advantage over Borisov at the beginning.

"After that, with inventive moves Borisov managed to keep up the balance, creating a "fortress" at one point. Later, mistakes led to the draw," Velchev said, as cited by Dnevnik.

The 10-year-old girl explained that she played to the best of her abilities. "I didn't yield to the Prime Minister because he is very good," Radeva told reporters after the match stressing that Borisov put up a tough fight.

The idea for the Borisov-Radeva chess clash originated with Borisov's aide, Bulgaria's Deputy PM and Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov. Borisov himself has often stated he loves playing chess.
