Senior Bulgarian Officials Brag about Anti-Mafia Tribunal
Bulgarian Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, visited Tuesday the newly opened building of the special Anti-mafia tribunal saying it had a dark past and a bright future.
The old building of the State Agency for National Security, DANS, now houses the Special Court, the Appellate Special Court, the Special Prosecutor's Office and the Special Prosecutor's Office of Appeals, which will try high profile organized crime cases.
The PM toured the building in the company of his Deputy and Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, and the new Justice Minister, Diana Kovacheva, stressing the government had secured the funds for repairs and renovations.
"These new institutions are a strong example of the serious fight against organized crime, which is closely monitored by the European Commission. What is important is not only the equipment, but also the courage and the personal stand of magistrates, who will work here," Kovacheva stated.
Tsvetanov declared that the joint effort of all institutions will reinstate in Bulgarian people the trust in the judicial system and in the adequate actions of the executive power in the fight against serious organized crime.
"I hope this will be appreciated by the EC and our Atlantic partners," he concluded.
Chief Prosecutor, Boris Velchev, who was present as well, also stressed on the importance of not only of having a modern building, but of the people who will work inside.
"Disputes are over; now it is time for work," the Head of the Supreme Court of Cassations, Lazar Gruev pointed out.
The Chairs of the Tribunal and Prosecutor's Office vowed to not spare any effort in turning the new institutions into "a true temple of justice."
Borisov did not allow reporters to ask questions on the grounds this would be a distraction and people would not be able to see "his new Court."
