Denmark on Monday promised a no-frills approach to its six-month stint at the helm of the European Union's rotating presidency, with even mineral water now viewed as too fancy.
"We want to make an efficient and competent presidency at low cost," Denmark's EU Affairs Minister, Nicolai Wammen, told visiting reporters in Copenhagen, as cited by DPA.
"Therefore there will not be as many gifs to dignitaries as usual, and we will also try to use public transportation more than what was seen previously,' Wammen added.
"And we will also try to make sure that when water is served, it will not be from bottles. This is the last time we have bottles on the table during the Danish Presidency," Wammen quipped.
On January 1, Denmark took over the rotating EU Presidency for the seventh time in its history since it joined the European Union in 1973.
