Bulgaria's National Sate Security Agency (DANS) is already working on the recent series of car arsons in the country's capital Sofia, it has been announced.
On Thursday, DANS head Konstantin Kazakov held talks with the lawmakers from the Bulgarian parliamentary commission that oversees DANS and measures have been discussed regarding the disturbingly high number of cars set on fire in Sofia over the past few weeks.
"We are doing everything we can. We are working in a close collaboration with the Interior Ministry and we are providing everything we can assist with in the current case," Kazakov has declared, as cited by the BGNES news agency.
The past several weeks saw over 40 vehicles being set on fire in various districts of Sofia. On Wednesday evening, 63 people were checked by police authorities on a variety of suspicions including having plastic bottles of gasoline in their vehicles.
However, the city once again woke up to the news that three more cars have been set ablaze in the capital.
In the wee hours of Tuesday, three cars were burned just in front of the Sofia Directorate of Interior Affairs.
Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov suggested that the car burnings could be linked to organized crime, which was also to blame for the overall destabilization of the capital.
