Bulgarian entrepreneurs have visited the Komi Republic (a federal subject of Russia) in order to explore the opportunities for revamping Bulgaria's key role in the local timber industry, according to local media.

Potential Bulgarian investors met with representatives of the local authorities involved in the region's timber industry. The companies which the Bulgarian investors represented have not been mentioned in the report.

A project was discussed for creating a forest industry enterprise in the Udor region, whose social and transport infrastructure was once built by Bulgarians.

The Bulgarian entrepreneurs also visited a factory in Komi's capital Syktyvkar and stated they were impressed by the level of technology and quality they witnessed.

Bulgaria was significantly involved in Komi's timber industry in the period between 1968 and 1991.

The extent of forest resources in the Republic of Komi exceeds 2.8 billion cubic meters, of which 2.357 are coniferous plantation.
