Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has admitted that he is eager to win his country's Footballer of the Year Award.

In an interview for the bTV private channel on Monday, the Bulgarian Prime Minister declared that he would be more than proud to receive the prestigious prize.

"Look at Gonzo for example...last time, he brought four guys from Levski with him to play against our Tigers from Bistritsa and we defeated them 18:12. And this is Gonzo! He scored us four goals, I scored eight," Borisov pointed out, exemplifying his football skills. He referred to Levski Sofia's former football player and coach Georgi Ivanov aka Gonzo.

Borisov now curiously holds the first position in the Footballer of the Year survey that is carried out among all interested Bulgarians by the website futbolist1.bg. The eccentric center-right politician has gathered more than 1 700 votes and tops the ranking with 35%, approximately 8% more than Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov.

On Monday, the Bulgarian Prime Minister went further to compare his football skills with those of Berbatov:

"Football is like women's beauty and men's potency. Nobody admits they are weaker. There is no way I could admit that I am weaker. The Tigers are a huge team," Borisov said upon asked whether he would admit that Berbatov is a stronger player than him.

Boyko Borisov, chairman of best-supported Bulgarian party GERB, has a keenness for all things sport and in the past has coached Bulgaria's karate team.

At present, Boyko Borisov plays football in the amateur Vitosha Bistritsa club (whom he refers to as "The Tigers" in the current article).

The 2011 edition of Bulgaria's Footballer of the Year survey was launched Saturday and the first round will last until next Sunday, December 4.

All fans can vote until then, after which a team of sport jounalists will determine the 10 finalists out of the Top 20.
