A group of Libyans are protesting in front of the Libyan Embassy in Sofia.

The demonstrators accuse the Ambassador dispatched by Libya's new government of denying them access to the premises of the diplomatic mission and of owing them money, according to reports of the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR).

A score of Libyans complain that Issa Omar Ashur, the interim head of the Libyan Embassy in Sofia, as well as a number of other officials of the diplomatic mission, are not returning their calls and are keeping them away from the Embassy, which is guarded by gendarmes.

Two of the protesters, university students in Bulgaria's southern city of Plovdiv, claim that Issa Omar Ashur owes them money for scholarships they are to receive from the Libyan state.

The gendarmes guarding the Libyan Embassy deny claims of tensions in front of the building.

In a Monday statement, the interim head of the Libyan Embassy in Sofia assured that Saif al-Islam, the most powerful son of late Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi, would receive a fair trial in his home country.

The diplomat suggested that the trial against Saif al-Islam should be seen as a symbolic trial against the entire previous regime.
