The Hague International Criminal Court has requested that Seif al-Islam Gaddafi, who was captured Saturday, be handed to it, while Libyan authorities have said they will not do that.
The first reports that Seif al-Islam, heir apparent to ousted and killed Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, has been captured in Libya came out earlier Saturday.
Later Fadi El Abdallah, associate of the Criminal Court, confirmed for the Bulgarian National Radio that the Hague institution has received official confirmation by Libyan authorities that Seif al-Islam has been captured.
The ICC official recalled that the younger Gaddafi has an international arrest warrant issued by the Court and that Libya is required to hand him to be tried there.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton has released a statement urging Libya to give Seif al-Islam a fair trial in full cooperation with the International Criminal Court.
According to the Court representative, Seif al-Islam must be tried at the Hague, and it would be unfair for him to be tried twice for the same crimes.
At the same time, a representative of the Libyan government has said that the authorities have no intention to hand Gaddafi to the Court and that he is going to be tried in Libya.
