Libyan authorities must ensure a fair trial for captured Gaddafi son Seif al-Islam and fully cooperate with the International Criminal Court, said EU foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton.
Saturday news reports surfaced that Seif al-Islam, the most promising son of ousted and killed Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi, has been captured.
The Hague International Criminal Court, which has issued an arrest warrant for him, has said it has no confirmed information regarding his arrest.
The Court further clarified that the arrest warrant actually requires Libyan authorities to give up Seif al-Islam to the Hague.
Later Saturday the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Ashton urged Libyans to do so and insisted that the heir apparent of Muammar Gaddafi be given a fair trial.
The Libyan authorities received muted international criticism regarding the killing of Gaddafi father minutes after his capture in October.
