Bulgaria: Bulgaria's Ex-EU Commissioner Hints She May Create New Party A TV grab showing Meglena Kuneva during her interview on Monday. "And now what?", the text says.

Meglena Kuneva, Bulgaria's former EU Commissioner who recently finished 3rd in her country's presidential elections, has not denied the rumors that she may launch a new political formation.

In in interview for the bTV private channel on Monday, Kuneva said she had no answer to whether she would be creating a new party. However, she pointed out that she intends to be very active in Bulgaria's political life.

"I cannot sit idly by and watch what is going on. I have scheduled meeting in three European capitals over the following couple of days; I will be very active, so that the voice of reason could be heard," the former EU Commissioner declared.

Kuneva, who ran for president as a self-proclaimed "candidate of the civil society", stated she was "enraged by the fact that nobody was talking about civil rights during the campaign."

She refuted the claims that she might be a left-wing "political project" linked with outgoing president Georgi Parvanov, adding that she believed it was Prime Minister Boyko Borisov who was connected with Parvanov.

Kuneva also said she wanted to have some things clear before she decides to set up a new party. "I want to know whether a change is necessary and whether people acknowledge that necessity," she commented.

Kuneva gathered some 14% of the first round vote October 23, remaining third between ruling GERB party candidate Rosen Plevneliev (who won the runoff on October 30), with 40%, and Bulgarian Socialist Party representative Ivaylo Kalfin, 29%.
