Seif al-Islam, late Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi's most powerful son, has vowed to take revenge for his father's death.
"We are continuing resistance. I am in Libya, I am alive and free and willing to fight to the end and take revenge," Seif al-Islam declared in an alleged statement aired by Syria-based Alrai TV channel late on Saturday. He declared he intended to fight to the bitter end against the rebels.
Earlier, a website of Gaddafi's supporters posted a statement that Seif al-Islam had been named an heir to the Libyan strongman and is now in and charge of the forces fighting the Transitional National Council.
There have been conflicting reports on Seif al-Islam's fate following his father's death. On Saturday, the Iranian Press TV cited Libyan military officials claiming that the influential son of slain ruler Muammar Gaddafi is in critical condition and has been hospitalized after losing his arm.
Other sources say he had managed to flee Sirte and find shelter in the desert.
