Ivaylo Kalfin, the presidential candidate endorsed by the left-wing Bulgarian Socialist Party, voted in Sunday's elections in Sofia.
"I voted for a unified Bulgaria that has a national cause and progresses forward," Kalfin commented upon casting his vote. He expressed his hope that the Election Day would pass peacefully, even though he admitted he had worries about that.
"I am very disappointed by the fact that Bulgarians abroad were not able to vote freely enough. A lot of our compatriots were deprived of their right to vote," Kalfin stated, as sited by the Focus news agency.
The left-wing candidate further declared he is going for the win and that he expects the Bulgarian voters to show that the country needs a nufying national cause.
Kalfin's wife, Tsvetanka Kalfina, who voted together with her husband, said she cast her vote for the better future of all young people in Bulgaria.
Kalfin has been widely tipped to reach the second tour of the presidential elections. All major polling agency place him second behind ruling centrist-right GERB's bidder Rosen Plevneliev. Meglena Kuneva, a former EU Commissioner and a non-partisan candidate, is expected to finish third.
