Police in Chicago has arrested some 175 participants in the Occupy Chicago rally, part of a global movement against capitalism and what they see as deeply unjust financial system.

According to police, they issued a number of warnings to protesters assembled in the Chicago Grant Park and Congress Plaza before resorting to force.

Arrested protesters will be duly fined for breach of public order, announced authorities.

Ralliers gathered in Chicago were shouting "The Whole World is Watching!" as thousands gathered across the globe in more than 80 countries.

Some 80 protesters are reported to have been arrested in world financial center New York, where the movement began as "Occupy Wall Street."
