A summit of EU leaders in Brussels scheduled for October 17-18 has been postponed to October 23, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Leaders from euro-zone countries were set to meet on October 18, while all EU heads of state were supposed to meet on October 17, the Wall Street Journal reminded Monday.

The delay has been attributed to the fact that the so-called troika of lenders, the International Monetary Fund, the European Commission and the European Central Bank, have not yet presented a report assessing the efficiency of the steps taken by Greece to resolve the debt crisis.

European Council President Herman Van Rompuy confirmed the rescheduling, saying it would allow the completion of a comprehensive strategy on the sovereign debt crisis in the Eurozone.

Van Rompuy listed key points on the agenda of teh upcoming summit, among which the situation in Greece, the bank recapitalisation and giving extra powers to the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF).
