Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov and Minister of Agriculture Miroslav Naydenov were present at the 9th annual national livestock breeding exhibit Saturday.
The show, held near southern Bulgarian city of Sliven, features 31 out of 33 Bulgarian organizations in the field, showcasing their best specimen.
"2012 will be the year of livestock breeding, with the government raising the subsidy per head of livestock animals," vowed Minister Naydenov.
According to the Agriculture Minister, the budget for livestock breeding will be BGN 190 M, against BGN 111 M for 2011, with the total budget for agriculture amounting to BGN 1.3 B.
Naydenov added that Bulgaria will ask the European Commission for a 18-month delay of the deadline that Bulgarian milk producers have to comply with EU regulations.
The news comes two weeks before presidential and municipal elections are held in Bulgaria on October 23.
