Policeman from the unit for combatting organized crime in the second largest city of Plovdiv have arrested a group of 20 for tax draining.
The special operation, codenamed Glas (Voice), aims at countering large-scale draining of Value Added Tax (VAT). The crime ring has drained over BGN 2 M in the course of two years.
The special operation has been carried out jointly with the Plovdiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, and police from the cities of Pazardzhik, Stara Zagora and Targovishte along with revenue agents from Plovdiv.
The group has been followed in the last four months – 50 witnesses have been questioned and 30 offices, residencies and cars have been raided.
Police have confiscated accounting documents, computers, cell phones, stamps, cash registers, contraband cigarettes valued at BGN 68 000, four luxury automobiles, and illegal guns.
The investigation continues.
